GWALARN
GWALARN

CZECH REPUBLIC

Gwalarn means northwest wind in Breton. The Celtic group Gwalarn was founded in 1998 by the Breton musician Yves Guélou after his arrival in the Czech Republic. In the past, Yves Guélou played with, among others, the pioneer of Breton world music Alan Stivel, or with the famous Greek musician Mikis Theodorakis.

The group Gwalarn is active on the Czech music scene. Her repertoire consists of Breton songs, sung in both Breton and French. The band's contemporary repertoire has gradually been enriched with individual original songs and compositions and, with a certain reservation, moves on the edge of being classified as word music. Breton, French and Irish traditionals, as well as some newly composed songs from the works of Yves Guélou, still form the basic building block of today's Gwalarn repertoire.
